Hap Palmer – March 2021

Hap Palmer - March 2021

On March 20th 2021 mom and I were going through all of mom's CDs and we came across a CD by Hap Palmer called "Rhythms on Parade."

Track  number 15 on that CD is called "Country Classics Stop and Start."

As I was listening to that track I realized that two of the songs on that track were songs that Ron used in the Patch adventure "Polecat's Poison."

It started to really bug me what the names of the original songs were!

I was bound and determined to figure this out! It was driving me crazy!

The only downside was that the Hap Palmer CD didn't have the song titles that were used in track 15 "Country Classics Stop and Start" So I went searching the internet for the song titles but had no luck.

Eventually I came across Hap Palmers website and on his website was his personal email address. Score!

So I took a chance and emailed him and asked him if I could get the names of the songs used in his song track "Country Classics Stop and Start." I wasn't ever expecting a reply. I didn't even know if the guy was alive. But I thought it was worth a shot. There was nothing to lose and I was stubborn and wanted answers to this musical mystery!

2 days later, March 22, 2021 I woke up and there was a personal response from Hap Palmer! What?? Seriously?? He wrote back?? Are you kidding me?? Crazy!! Unbelievable!! His email was super nice!

Here's what he said:

"Dear Christine,
Thank you for your email.  You are absolutely right.  The titles to the songs in Country Classics should be on the CD.  I will update the lyrics and activities page for Rhythms on Parade on my website to include this information.  In my recent songbook I have listed the titles and the information.   The songs are Wildwood Flower, You Are My Sunshine, Black Mountain Rag, and Wabash Cannon Ball.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
Hap"

I'm so thrilled that he gave me the song titles that I so badly wanted! Oh happy day!

Day made!!

I emailed him back right away and thanked him and told him about Majesty Music and the Hamiltons and the Patch The Pirate ministry.

The two songs that Ron used in the Patch adventure "Polecat's Poison" are Wildflower and Wabash Cannonball.

Wildflower is the tune for a song that Ron titled "Polecat Jack"

Wabash Cannonball is the tune for a song that Ron titled "Shoot the "Gospel  Gun."

Ron, you can't hide your sources from me forever! 🙂 Why do I say this? Here's the backstory on this.

Back in 2010 Ben Everson interviewed Ron Hamilton. During the interview Ben asks Ron how he writes music on a schedule. Ron jokingly says "I'm a very creative person and the secret behind that I've heard and I've found out this to be true, the secret to being creative is concealing your sources very very well." Ever since I heard Ron say that it's become a running joke and my forever mission to find as many of Ron's sources as possible. Right now I have a running list a mile long of Ron's sources that he used in different Patch adventures. Some day I will have to show this list to Shelly. I'm sure she would get a kick out of it.
